Hello,

I'm currently gaming at 1024x768 on a 5 year old LCD monitor, it was best quality when I got it but now it's just too small and I'm sick of gaming at a small screen. I'm planning to get this monitor since I'm getting an 18$ price discount and I have some money aside and it costs about 111$:

http://www.lg.com/hr/monitori/lg-20M35A-B-led-monitor (sorry, everything's in Croatian)

Is that monitor worth it? I'm currently running most of games smoothly but what impact on performance will this upgrade of monitors have? For example on games like CS:GO and Skyrim or for gaming overall? I'm also planning to get a new motherboard after that so I can put in the i5-3470 that's on my shelf in my PC. Should I expect a nice increase in performance on a 1600x900?

PC specs so it's easier for you:

GPU: VTX3D HD 6770 1GB V2

CPU: Dual Core E5700 3.00 GHz

PSU: XFX Core Edition 550W

RAM: 4GB

Current monitor: http://au.agneovo.com/au/content/f-415.asp

Thank you.

Oh no there's a mistake. I'm from Croatia, I wasn't checking the au. in the link I gave you, sorry, just gave it to you so you can see the monitor I'm currently using. The reason I chose this one is that I got a -18$ coupon that I can use on anything that's in the catalog I got, and that monitor is in. There are a few others along with this one but they're way out of my budget, but they're 1080p. I can't go anything above the price of the monitor I chose and if it wasn't for the coupon I wouldn't buy this one either. So yeah, that's why I'm asking you guys is it worth it and what will the impact on performance be.

Ah sorry for misunderstanding, my mistake too for not reading more closely,
If you are happy to be using the max resolution of 1600*900 then yes it is fine, good but not great. Will still play almost all games. 5ms response time is great too.
If you would prefer 1080p then best to keep looking

In USD, well I would love a 1080p but 1600x900 is enough for me since 1080p is higher price here and it would lower my performance on games a lot. How much of an improvement can I expect on a 1600x900 or 1080p if I upgrade from my Dual Core to i5 3470?

no that cpu isnt causing problems its just the gpu. a good cheap solutions r9 270(140-160$), gtx 750(~100$)

dont settle for less when everyone has 8k your over hear man i tired on gaming at hd i need 8k.

glad to clear up the currency lol
This would be closest recommended monitor @ $8 above your budget of $111, still featuring IPS and 1080p
Monitor: AOC i2267Fw 60Hz 22.0" Monitor ($119.99 @ Amazon)

Not going for IPS, which would mainly help with viewing angles or when seated far from screen, is TN, would suggest this for biggest screen size, low response time, 1080p, well known manufacturer and ofcourse in budget
Monitor: LG 22M35D 60Hz 22.0" Monitor ($104.99 @ NCIX US)

Use this link to browse through the monitors yourself, on the right side, there's options of features you want included in the monitor wanted, the above 2 monitors included here too

gtx 760 is closer to performance of a r9 270
And yes, it is the GPU holding you back in performance

yeah thats why i recommended it 760 performance for 750ti price.

yeah but if he can overclock a r9 270 to r9 270x levels and beyond he will be set. or the r9 280 the r9 270x really isnt worth its price the r9 280 is 199$ and whoops a 270x's pants.

lol, we;re suggesting gpu's when it's not even asked for and no budget stated if so... best wait to see what OP exactly wants to do and at what budget if so.

Basic OC'ing a gpu is very easy but most will not be comfortable with it, there's also issue of voiding warranty in some cases if they are ok with that. So for a post'er who doesn't know what would benefit most in that spec, best to suggest components at stock non-ref oc clocks

not for such a high price then a r9 280 might aswell be given. most companines dont really void it for overclocking it if it was meant for overclocking(hydro top 780ti just for example meant to be oc'ed.) Overclocking should be embraced since its one of the benifits of having a pc and adds extra performance.

All us enthusiast users OC and waterblock regardless of warranty lol, the slightly less enthusiastic or more cautious mostly stick to non-ref oc'd settings
According to the full build above and tight budgeting, I'd save a month or however long it took to get a 290, then save for an i5

In a previous thread yesterday, the OP bought a used but good condition 290x for the price of a 290 on Amazon (who do offer good buyer protection), maybe that could be an option here too, both in the case of the monitor and gpu
