A few weeks ago I ran into some problems with my computer after a windows update and the computer wouldn't boot. I tried numerous tricks (there's a thread on here of some of the things I tried) and nothing worked.

At one point I cleared the partition table but recovered it using testdisk. Before the partition table was cleared, the drive would not open in linux (I'm running Ubuntu off of a jump drive) Now the drive will open but it only shows one folder that contains two items that are 1.3Mb total. The drive properties still shows the drive has 283.3GB of used space, which is the correct ammount of used space.

I've tried using photorec on linux but after running for about 10 minutes the files that were recovered were all mixed up and I don't think much would be usable after besides pictures. What could I do to recover all my files? I'm trying to load everthing onto a 500GB external drive. I can run linux on the computer via USB or I can plug the drive into an external dock and plug that into my mac but it doesn't show up in either mac os x or windows 7 (boot camp). I'm not sure if that's because of the drive or the external dock as I don't have another drive to test it with.

If I try to boot from the drive it gives me a BSOD almost immediately and says
File: \windows\system32\windload.efi
Error code: 0xc000225

If I try to boot from the jump drive that I used to install windows on it says
The boot configuration data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system
File: \Boot\BCD
Error code: 0xc0000098
but I can boot from that when the hard drive is not plugged in to the computer.

Thanks in advance!
