My girlfriend was having some laptop problems so she ran the "Refresh your computer without affecting your files" option under her windows 8.1 update and recovery menu. After going through the process it restarted the computer, throws up the hp logo and says "setting up a few more things XX%" It reaches 79% and displays the message "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation." I've tried turning it on and off again, and inserting the windows install disk. Nothing I've tried has had any affect so I hope somebody that can help will respond. Thank you.

You need to be more specific. Were the laptop running 8.1 earlier? If not, there might be compatibility issues.
If yes, perhaps try the repair option instead or it could be the installation files problem

I have the same issue with my laptop currently. At first idid have ant issues but then my laptop started to run a little sluggish do i tried restating it. at this point i couldn't get to the log in screen. when the option to refresh without losing my files came up i chose that one. From there it was ok until it got to a black screen with the company logo (hp) that says setting up a few more things followed by a percent. Once it gets to a certain point it will say the same thing Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation. It's very frustrating cause I need this computer for my college classes.
