I just got a bundled ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 motherboard with an AMD fx 6300 CPU. I added 2x8GB DDR3 1333 RAM. System says only 8 installed and 4GB available. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

I tried swapping out the RAM with 1600. Still now showing all installed RAM.

I know the RAM is good as I installed it on another workstation, different motherboard, and it works there.

Please help :)

Install 1 in slot a2 (2nd from cpu), boot, what results. Repeat with other stick.

Inset both sticks in a2 and b2 (slots 2 and 4) several times, then check the the sticks for the 'teeth marks' should all be scratched. Sometimes it just a matter with a new board of loosening things up a little so they seat right.

You have 2 sets of 2x4GB? or what ? opening post you say 2x8GB and it shows 8GB installed 4 available - now you say 2x4GB for 8 2 installed for 16GB? the model number is for a 2x4GB set - is there 1 of them or 2 of them?

If 4 sticks total first test each individual set using slots 1-3 or 2-4 from CPU, see if either set has a problem that way, if bot do i.e. only showing 4GB total useable then there is a slot or MC problem more than likely....is one set works fine and the other doesn't then you probably have a bad stick throwing things out of whack ...if both sets work fine, that way then there is either a set up problem or the two set don't want to play - if that's the case try manually setting them to 1333, 9-9-9-24 1.55 and set the CPU/NB voltage to 1.25

I put Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800)
that's 2x8GB sticks
in a1 b1 then a2 b2. In Bios the 8gb memory displays accurately. When I start windows and go to properties. says 16gb installed 7.96 usable.
I'm noticing in Bios is says Single Channel. Not sure how to activate Dual Channel memory. Could that be the problem?

I reinstalled windows 7 prof. 64 bit. No change. The manual calls for DDR3 to be in slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 for 2 sticks. Shows reserved hard memory about 8GB.
I tried putting memory in slots 1 & 2. Reserved memory is now 45mb. Properties shows 16GB installed RAM. The usable indicator is no longer there.
Seems to be working ok. Any known problems not putting the memory in the slots indicated in the manual?

Thank you.

1-2 will be single channel opposed to dual channel, a loss performance wise of up to 10-15%. Will the sticks work in 3-4? If not then may want to pull CPU and check for bent/broken pins as it would indicate either a bad channel on the mobo, bad connection (mobo to CPU) or bad MC (memory controller in the CPU)....

I wondered about the single channel. When sticks are in 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 bios says single channel mode. Not sure how to activate that. I pulled CPU this morning. Didn't see any bad pins. Reseated and restarted fine. I'll try slots 3 and 4. From manual.... looks like that will be single channel as well. Which is better? 10-15% loss or 7.96GB usable?
