A mid to high end i5 is as good in most games(at least until games can use the extra threads the i7 offers.). So if money is a concern, I would go that route.

In short, the i7 cpus have something called hyper threadding that allows the cpu to execute 2 threads per cpu. so 4 cpus will show up as 8. If programs can take advantage if this feature they get a boost. Not too many games take advantage of this feature at this time.

Please do mention what is your cpu's exact model....if it is pentium/i3 you have a lga1155 socket and you should go with this list

And if an amd athlon/phenom processor then you can go with ....

Oh...just figured out....you have a lga775 cpu...that means a c2d or pentium...thats quite outdated stuffs...its useless to play games with these cpus....my suggestion is to buy a decent i3 as well...

So you have tried a 750ti and it did not work?

Your board is for the older Core2 series(GTA 4 will not be that happy with that system) of chips and you may have a hard time finding a new one. Intel has had many LGA and chipset changes since that board/cpu was replaced.

The GTX 750ti is based on a similar design to the GTX 6XX Kepler cards. I have personally tested a GTX 670 on a P35 chipset. That is from around the same time era(in fact released a year before the G41) as your current system.

You may be able to get a bios update from the board maker, but make 100% sure you follow the instructions as messing up can make the system stop working.

As the user above recommends on a budget look at the i3's they are cheap and still faster than the older generation of cpus. If you can get into a mid level i5 you could have 4 actual cores that some of the more threaded games would like more.

These new cpus require a new board as well.

On an even tighter budget look at AMDs offerings.

Now please note I am recommending middle of the road hardware because the 750ti is a mid level card. My media center has a first generation i5 750 + GTX 650ti(started with a AMD 5770). It was mid level, but the cpu is showing its age for sure. Medium settings on any newer game because high is too much on new games(at least if I want decent frame rates). and 60fps non stop is another no go situation. Frame rates will play depending on the game(Even my i7 2600k @ 4.4ghz will drop under 60 fps depending on the game[mmos are more prone to this issue].).
