My usb hard drive isn't showing up on my PC... it makes the noise that it's connected and it will allow me to safely remove it, but it doesn't show up in my computer! This problem is new as I was only using the hard drive yesterday! I've tried it on another PC and it's the same on that one as well.. PLEASE HELP!!

Is it a portable hard drive or a desktop hard drive? The difference being a portable one is powered by the USB port, a desktop one is usually plugged into an outlet. Either way, here are 3 things you can try:

First, in my experience, external hard drives have issues with the connectivity ports more than anything else. My guess is that USB port on the back of your external hard drive is just a little loose or out of place or whatever. If you have another connection option with that drive, I would try that out (my WD MyBook, for example, has a Firewire port that I'm now using because the USB port doesn't work anymore).

Also, when you're checking to see if it's the connectivity port on the hard drive enclosure that is the issue, I would...

Also, when you're checking to see if it's the connectivity port on the hard drive enclosure that is the issue, I would try putting the hard drive in a few different positions as one of them might magically work. I know a lot of people will probably scoff at me for this suggestion as the last thing you want to do with a mechanical hard drive is move it around, but it worked for me when my WD's USB port started getting problematic.

Second, I'd check to see if there are any firmware updates for your hard drive. I don't think it's the driver because, as you said, two PC's are seeing the same problem. I also don't think it's a firmware issue, but it's worth a try.

Third, the last DIY option is to move the hard drive into a new enclosure, if you are savvy enough to do this.

After this, you are only left with warranty/manufacturer. However, DO NOT try option 3 if you intend on sending it to the manufacturer.
