Hello all. Ive just signed up today after being redirected here many times in my transition to pc gaming. Well, ive got a pc, installed a new power supply and graphics card and now looking to the future i realize, i would really prefer a larger case.

Now the pc i have is an 'asus m51ac 1a' and after watching some case review videos on youtube im hearing things like 'this case is designed for atx, e-atx motherboards'

My question is this, what motherboard do i have or are most larger cases kind of universal in what will screw in? One of the cases im looking at is the Corsair Air 540. Could i just swap all my guts over easily, or given my current hardware, what should i be looking for in a compatible case?

Solution

Yes to answer the questions. There will be holes for the screws depending on the size of the motherboard. Don't worry it is pretty straight forward when you reached that stage.
Welcome to the forum! Love to see new members everyday.

But back to business. When looking for a case, users will usually look for a motherboard that is compatible, a GPU that will fit (most GPU will fit and some will require the drive bays to be removed).

Please provide the motherboard you have and the rest of the specs and I will tell you if you can shift every part into the new build.

Thats part of my question. Im unsure what motherboard i have. Where would i look if its printed somewhere?

the day i brought my pre-built home, i also threw in a new card and power supply. this is the picture i snapped that day. Maybe this helps? I know its very cluttered. http://imgur.com/hTz3hiu

With the link provided it seems quite simple to figure out if all it is is the physical size of it. Ill hold off measuring it at the moment (lazy, actual screws hold my door shut) but when the time comes to actually getting a new case, ill keep the link handy. thanks =]

edit: found it online with help from the link for comparision. its a micro atx motherboard

I researched for the your PC but it doesn't say the motherboard.

i found it online with help from the wiki link and comparing some of those links to my old photos. after realizing it looks similar to a micro atx board i just googled 'asus m51ac micro atx' in the hopes that someone would have previously answered my question, and someone confirmed it is a micro atx motherboard

Then an ATX case or Micro ATX case will house the motherboard perfectly.
