Of the two boards (GA-Z97X-UD3H and the Fatal1ty H97 Performance), which is the better bet for a gaming PC? Overclocking isn't essential since I prioritize long system life over max performance.

Generally, I'm partial toward ASUS and Gigabyte, which are the only brands I've touched over the past decade. Nevertheless, the H97 Performance packs some enticing features for the price.

it all depends on the CPU you are using. if it is a "K" model then getting the H97 will mean that your CPU may as well not be a K version at all. if it is a non "K" model then definitely go with the H97 board as the perks of the Z97 chipset will not work for you.
