Hi
I am looking to build a new custom gaming pc. I need some help to know if the parts I have chosen are compatible or not. Also I need a good case. Suggest whether it should be a full tower or a mid tower case and also suggest good cases. Please inform me if there are any problems with my parts.

Part List:
1. Intel core i5 4690k 3.4 gHz quad core processor.
2.Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 motherboard.
3.Corsair Vengeance 1x8gb DDR3 1600 memory.
4.Zotac GeForce GTX 760 2gb video card.
5. Western Digital Caviar Green 1tb 5400 rpm 3.5" hard drive.
6.Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 550W PSU.

Is there anything else that I need? I already have the monitor and other peripherals.
Please suggest a good case for my rig. Should I make any changes? Are the parts good enough? Is there a way I can cut the costs without compromising on performance?
Please reply fast.
Thanks guys.

First of all the parts are compatible however there are some things you should take into consideration :

1- The Asus Maximus VI Hero will need a bios Update before installing the 4690K , Its also so overpriced .
The Asus Z97-A is a better option : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a Also 30 Bucks cheaper which can be invested into a better graphics Card.

2- There's no reason to get a 1x8 GB Memory , you need to get a 2x4 GB Memory for the dual channel extra bandwidth , speed and more reliability.
A Good Option : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f32133c10d8gsr

3- The WD Caviar Green is a very slow HDD originally designed for mass storage and backups but not for daily usage , its a 5400 RPM HDD and highly...
Yes they are compatible.

Recommendations:
Get a CPU cooler. Try Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo for the budget. Or go with Noctua NH-D14. Or for liquid go with Corsair H100i.

Change the motherboard to a Asus Maximus Hero VII as it is a Haswell Refresh CPU unless you don't mind performing a BIOS update.

Don't get a single channel RAM. Get dual channel which improve performance by about 5%. And as you will need to consider a CPU cooler, then get a a G.Skill RAM as they are much shorter and will have more clearance between itself and the CPU cooler.

Buy a WD or Seagate HDD that is 7200RPM instead of 5400RPM for gaming purposes.

For cases, try Cooler Master HAF Series, or NZXT Phantom Series or Corsair case.

A More reliable/better for daily usage HDD : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate-internal-hard-drive-st1000dm003

4- No need to pay a premium for a gold certified PSU and pay more while you can get the same if not better quality PSU for less and yet again settle for a better graphics card.
Better PSU : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550sxxb9

5- The GTX 760 is indeed a great graphics card but for ultra settings 1080p you'll need to turn off some of your AA and PhysX for maintaining that 60 FPS price point , A even better graphics card for less is the R9 280 which sells for as little as 200 Bucks about 30 dollars cheaper than the 760 .

However since this a gaming build I'd suggest taking a look at the 280X like this one which will crush games at ultra settings without breaking a sweat ( or the budget too )

And last but not least is a SSD , adding one will decrease the boot and load times by much and still without breaking the budget .
Good one : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-internal-hard-drive-ct120m500ssd1

Edit : I'd suggest Mid Tower Case just for the size and functionality issues.

I'm going for the i5 4670k not the 4790k. Sorry typo .I'll change the hard drive, ram and psu. But the asus z97a has a z97 chipset and I heard that the 4670k needs z87 chipset. Will that be a problem?

No the motherboard won't be a problem, you should get a z97 board so that when you do get a new cpu in the future, your board might support it so you can save money y not needing to upgrade the motherboard, RAM is fine but change the psu maybe
