IPS or TN - Bit of both usage

I know there are hundreds of threads about this but it's impossible to apply it to your own situation!

To put it simply I'm completely torn between higher refresh rate and and better image quality. My current two options being the Dell U2414 (IPS) and the Asus VG248QE (TN and cheaper). My budget is £200 max each ($330) and I'll be buying two.

I'm on my pc a fair amount but the usage tends to be an even balance between general and non-competition gaming.

My questions really are:-

-Am I truly going to notice the difference in 8ms and 1ms?

-Same applies with 60hz and 144hz?

-And again with image quality?

-Have I chose the best two examples??

My rig is 4670K @4 with a 290, so I'm running everything fairly well.

Not particularly bothered with viewing angle and definitely don't care for 3D.

I'm interested in sharp intense images and also the idea of getting the extra FPS into the monitor just cant choose which is more important!

one is better in terms of colors. viewing angle is not a factor you said (esp if you will use it yourself)

144hz, yes you will notice this if your rig can reach 100+ fps (but you have a nice rig, so it should, and you can always lower the settings a bit)
i have a 120hz, and i just lower the settings a bit to reach 100-120

for 120/144, checkout benq brand. or those reviewed here at toms.

on the other side, 60 is very good already. i have yet to own an ips (not a cheap ips) so i cannot tell you. as for response time, i think ghosting will be annoying, so be careful.

I'm edging towards the ips screens due to image quality. I highly doubt I'll notice the refresh rate and latency difference with the casual gaming I do.

I reckon there's a pretty big difference in image quality between ips and tn?

colors wise, yes, though i have not sued an IPS thoroughly. i heard there are cheap IPS (e-ips or something) that are not on par with the usual IPS.

here, found a good thread for this:

how do we put tags (url, etc) here??
