Hi, I just bought a samsung 840 evo to upgrade my pc (desktop). It was in the original package with all cds and manuals but with no SATA/USB cable connector. Since I had no way to connect it using USB, I tried to plug it with a free SATA from my motherboard... and the surprise is: it isn't recognized in any way.

Am I doing something wrong? Is the USB cable really needed for the first installation? Any advice will be greatly accepted ;(

Solution
Is your OS on the new SSD or on a different disk?

If it's on a different disk, plug in the SSD, boot as normal and open Disk Management (search for in the start menu if you can't find it). If the SSD shows up there you may just have to initialize and format it.

Did you make sure to plug in the power connection as well? The drive comes in a blank state, so once you've connected it and booted into windows, you need to open up Windows Disk Management to initialize and create a new volume on the drive.
