Will my Local Disk D: and C: files remain if I install Windows 8 Pro?, I have difficulty understanding the "Personal Files Only" Option, Any answer will do good.

Solution
You can keep the files, but it's not recommended. If your current OS is installed on C, you could save your files on D and then wipe C drive clean when you install Windows 8. It runs better after a clean install rather than keeping your old files. Your old programs won't work after an OS installation anyway. You have to install them again.

I second Zkye's recommendation: total wipe-out and clean install, then reinstall all your programs. Your computer will operate much much better doing that than doing the hopscotchian upgrade techniques.

The only reason that Upgrades should be tolerated is if there's some installed program which no longer can be re-installed properly, formally. As in "I don't have the install files or disks".

Then, I'd first seriously ask, "Do I really need it? Isn't there an alternative?"

Because you'll have odd and at least inefficient computer behaviors from the Upgrade-Installation time forward.

Yes, copy any files you want to keep and then install Windows 8 on drive C. You can also save files that doesn't require installation such as fonts, photoshop brushes, so you could copy them back without having to look for them again.

Something else you should know: Never keep your important personal files on a single HDD. You never know when it will fail and you'll lose everything. There are free online storage websites you could use if you have only one HDD.
