Both are good and about equally powerful so really depends on the games you play and what technology you want.

I picked ASUS GTX 770 DirectCU II TOP over Asus R9 280X DirectCU II TOP... would do the same with Zotac... nvidia has more stable drivers and coolers, also shadowplay is amazing and Physx uhhh :D

However if you are using 2 monitors you could consider R9 280x since it has more vram

GTX770 perfroms better on 1 screen with 1920x1080 resolution

R9 280x better on two monitors or one monitor with resolution higher than 1920x1080

If you are playing more of Battlefield then go with the 280X. But is there by any chance you could get an Asus 770.

Those cards are extremely close although most reviews give the edge to the GTX 770.

Zotac amp are almost always the highest clocked cards without breaking the bank.

exceptions are few. I'd take the nv card unless as mentioned gaming accross two monitors.

Considering only those two cards in your wishlist, then I would choose GTX 770 engine if there is no financial constraint yet r9 280x is still worth a lot. There are numerous online benchmarks, comparing both of these cards. Though GTX 770 has bagged the place, its real time performance is negligible with 280X's. Believe it or not, it is true. The price difference between these cards is around 90$ (Approximately) but the performance difference is just around 8%.

It's like you're paying 90$ more for nvidia just to obtain 8% performance higher than AMD's. Let me show you few benchmarks.

Not only by these but I've tried those cards in real as well. If I'm at your place, I would go with R9 280X with no hesitations because IT IS THE BANG FOR THE BUCK. Specs-wise, GTX 770 may look better like 70% higher but when it comes to gaming in real time, it has just proved to be an very expensive card and you can even buy R9 290 in the similar price which is far better than 770. 290's texel rate, pixel rate and clocks are really commendable and worth buying. So choose your card wisely, OP. And hey, r9 280x is also a good overclocker. I use R9 270X of MSI's and I have superclocked it.

Edit: I must admit that I've quoted a much pricing difference. My apologies for the inconvenience. It seems only 20-30$ difference. Credits to i7Baby and Proofy.

Oh my god. I didn't expect this, at all. One thing is true that all electronic gadgets and components sold in my country are way too expensive. I'm very much disappointed with the tax levied on the graphics card. I don't know about pricing then yet I still vote for R9 280X because of its overclocking ability, and VRAM which is needed within a few months down the line.

Update: The 20-30$ difference is being the same in my region as well. Sorry for misleading info in my first post. I've edited it.
