Hey! After some bad weather (lightning), my asus N66U just broke down. The WAN port and port 1 is broken (confirmed by shop), but the rest should work just fine.

So my question is. Could I remap port 2,3 or 4 to become a WAN-port, or make a cheap repair? Or is my only option to buy a new one?

I checked to see how much a new one would cost, and N66U costs 150 $. The new AC66U costs 200 $, so I'm also wondering if it's worth the extra 50 $ to buy the better one.

The reason I chose this router is because it has a great range (without reducing speed). With other routers, I won't get connection around the house because of its size. The connection is pretty crappy, because we're living in the country side (4Mbit download, 1Mbit upload). So the routers main purpose is to be gentle to all the different pc's/ipads/phones and have a long range. And as far as I know, I don't need the new AC standard for that!

Help would be very appreciated!

This is true. An alternate firmware might allow the re-mapping of ports. But...the hardware will still be defective and tje extent of the damage may be more than just the ports previously mentioned.

I would still replace this router.
