Get a current gpu or wait (a lot) for dx12 ?

Hi
I have built a new custom PC and only left out the graphics card. It's an i5-4690 and an xfx 550w build, for 1080p gaming. Initially I was going to buy either a gtx 770 or an R9 290, but there was some trouble finding the R9 290 so I'm waiting for a couple of days. And then I searched for the next generation of gpus, and apparently nvidia is launching the 900 series with full dx12 support pretty soon. If I choose to wait, it might be for months since I don't live in the US or Europe, and I might have to play my most anticipated games later on.
My main concern is performance and being able to play the latest games for the longest possible. Do you think I should wait for full dx12 cards and get my gpu in January, or should I just get one of the dx11.2 cards which only partially support dx12 ?
Obviously I don't want to wait, but I also don't want my build to become obsolete in a short time.
Any advice ?
Thanks.

nvidia has pledged FULL support for GTX 700 series cards, AMD have pledged FULL support for GCN Architecture cards.

nvidia have also pledged PARTIAL support for GTX 400, 500 and 600 series cards.

From that link: "That said, the lower-level abstraction seems to be a pretty huge part of what makes DirectX 12 what it is, and many of us will be able to reap the fruits of it on current-gen GPUs."
