My current config;

AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8120 Black Edition 3.10Ghz (Socket AM3+) + stock cooler.
ASRock 970 Extreme4 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1866C10DC)
Edimax N300 PCI Wireless Lan Card. (EW-7619Pln V2
Palit GTX 460
Corsair Overseer RX-I Black case.

First question:

I am looking at the Zalman CNPS9900-MAX Blue LED CPU Cooler and I am wondering if this will both provide adequate cooling for my CPU and also fit on my motherboard taking into account that the PCIE x1 slot just above the first PCIE x16 is occupied by my wireless card?

Second question:

I am looking at the Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-E Sound Card and I have a slight issue of where to install it. The graphics card I currently have is covering the second PCIE x1 slot on the motherboard. Would it work in one of the PCIE x16 slots on the board, and if so would it affect the performance of the GFX card (lover the bandwidth of the slot)?
Or would I have to go for a PCI sound card instead?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The cooler will not interfere with the first PCI-E 1x slot; instead, I would worry about the clearance between the cooler and the upper case area (the cooler will go over the upper edge of the motherboard and there is a slight possibility for the cooler to touch the case).

Normally, you could use any PCI-E slot (x1, x4, x8, x16). However, to prevent any problems, use the last slot (it is wired at x4 speed anyway).

An update...

I finally went ahead and bought the cooler and I have it installed. In the end the cooler has more than enough room to fit height wise and safely avoids all components on the motherboard. However you really really NEED to have low profile RAM if you use this cooler.

Overall I'm impressed with the cooler and it is so quiet I can hear my data hard drive reading and writing whereas before it was drowned out by the stock cooler on the CPU.
