Okay I need help in decidion here... The computer will be used for VIDEO EDITING

Which is better i5 3570k or 4690k for video rendering and why?
Please give me some benchmarks or valid explanation. How much boost performance can I get from overclocking (3570k oc is on 4.2GHz - 4690k is on 4.7GHz)

Is 4770k worth 100$ more ( if the difference is up to 5-10% I consider it as not worth, some benchmarks where I can see if 4770k is really that much better if it is)

Thanks

I would say get the i7-4770k, it will be much faster especially on intensive editing programs like maya and photoshop although the performance wouldnt really be needed as the i5's would still run it pretty well. For render times is where the i7 really blows past the others by large amount depending on the settings, codec, and application aswell as having more or less ram.

I would go with a Xeon 1231v3, with a less expensive motherboard. You get i7 4770 performance for $50 less than an i7 4770. For video editing, the extra threads of the Xeon will be beneficial. If you need integrated graphics, go with a Xeon 1246 v3. Pair it up with a less expensive H97 board like the Asrock H97 pro4.

I don't have that CPU in my country (I have to buy xeons outside on which I would have to pay 10% customs and 25% taxes on import from the full price of CPU and it's not worth it) and I'm kinda afraid of xeon cpus because I tend to put them in server computers, workstations and such

So between those choices that I wrote.. any benchmarks or something usefull for comparison ? I did a research but didn't found many comparisons between 3570k and 4690k ( or 4670k since they are kinda the same thing)

Yes ofcourse i'm not getting H series.. but I think that i7 and a good mobo for it will be much more expensive and I don't think that I'm gonna be able to get that much money and performance ain't gonna be that extraordinary... So if you would have to choose between:

a) i5 3570k and Asrock z77 Extreme4
b) i5 4690k and ASUS z97-a

both would be running with 2x8GB 1866MHz ram, which one would you choose?

I can understand not getting one due to cost, but there is nothing to be afraid of. E3 series 1230/1231 v3 and higher are nothing more than an i7 without IGP, with the exception of those ending in 5 or 6, like the 1245/1246v3. You will want i7 for what you are wanting to do.

Just get an i7Haswell-equivalent version of Xeon CPUs (1231v3 or 1246v3 or even higher if your budget allows it) & a decent B85 board then you're good to go.
Them Xeons are typically business versions of the i7s AND are optimized for heavy stressload (which is why they're business class CPUs). Avoid unlocked CPU to save yourself from OC researches, especially when OCing would reduce system lifespan just like stressload 24/7.

And yes, when it comes to burning all them power, xeon/i7 is ALWAYS worth it. If you're not into those budget, an AMD FX 8 cores would provide similar rendering power with lower price. Given you're not into gaming which is where FXs suck big time at.

I would even recommend i7 Extreme edition if your budget is unlimited lol, then you're more than good to go for at least the next 7 years or so.

My budget is very limited and that's the problem. I would need like >100$ extra for i7 (i7 4770k in particular because you gain 10-15% from OC-ing in video rendering)

FX processors are actually very good for gaming especially if you overclock them and boost their single thread performance (there are plenty of benchmarks out there :D )
The thing is sometimes I do video editing which requires more cores where FX would be better over the i5 yes, but other times I do stuff which requires single threaded performance where FX is no match to the i5

So I would usually go with the i7 but since I don't have money for it at the moment, I have decided to go with i5 4690k and ASUS z97-a motherboard. I can always sell this cpu in the future since it's the best gaming CPU, there are plenty of people who would like to buy it I guess and replace it with i7 4770k. If I manage to get that $100 soon I will go with 4770K. Thank you all for your replies
