Icons displayed as default images after changing C: ownership and rights

I changed my C: disc ownership and rights to overcome a problem i had. Now most icons are not displayed correctly in explorer and on the taskbar. I tried deleting the icon cache file, it did not work. The file associations to programs are correct. Does anyone know why this happened and how to solve the problem?

Is there an icon cache under your user folder? I'm wondering if since you took ownership it's looking for the cache under your folder. You can manually rebuild the cache following these steps too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819-icon-cache-rebuild.html

Thanks, but it is starting to seem like the problems go deeper than just icons. Should not have changed those ownership rights without making a system backup. I think i will have to reinstall windows from scratch.

Sounds like a fresh install would be best... What was the original problem you were having?

A program i had to install would not, stating some permission problems. The problem must have been with the installer instead, because even after giving my account all ownership and rights over C: it still gave the same error. I already re-installed and everything works well. Will never make that mistake again.
