What software to clone/copy drives for backup

I hope I've put this in the write section, Sorry if I haven't.

Basically I'm looking for something that will clone my working drive to a back up drive. I have a SSD boot drive and a 2TB HDD for all my media and would like to have two off site back ups of my 2TB HDD.

I've just been doing it manually, copying over additional files, moving what's been moved and deleting what has been removed. There has to be something out there that can do this for me?

It would definitely need to recognise what's been removed, renamed, moved or otherwise on the working drive so that they are exact copy's all the time.

Normally, I use "clone software" on my boot drive, and then back "backup software" for data-files. You can do both, with Clone Software but it's probably a longer process for Cloning than Backups.

You're really looking for a scheduler, though, to automate the Backup Process, I believe. So as the suggestions pour in, you might focus on Scheduler Possibilities.

Backups are only part of the story, however, because they're all worthless if the Restore Process isn't easy and good. Some products do a compressed backup which means they're required to do Restores. They, and they alone. The backups then aren't "portable" or even compatible perhaps across different OSs, or different eras of computers.

This compression speeds up the Backup, and some reviewers give them high marks for Speedy Backups but if they're a pain, difficult or impossible to do a Restore, what good are they? What difference does a 10-minute backup mean if the Restore is awful? "Save the 10 minutes and don't do ANY backup!" becomes AS useful for an end result.

Win8, by the way, uses "file history" instead of "backups" although it can read and restore Win7's backup-sets. This change - this incompatibility - should be a BIG alarm bell going off about Windows, though - they too will change Backups and Restores to please them, not their customers.

And every vendor has done this before, and can do it again.

Cloning DOES mute this point. But so does a simple Drag-n-Drop copy.

I recommend you consider packages that offer "Schedulers" and "Selective Restores", not just "Backups"

I dont ever plan on doing a back up or clone of any sort of my boot drive, so I'm not worried about that.

I'm certainly not after what most people define as a traditional back up, like you explained, a compressed back up that requires a restore and is not possible or accessible from another OS. That is definitely not what I am after.

Also some sort of schedule software would be no good. I am fine to do it manually whenever it's necessary and the off site drives wont be plugged into the computer permanently anyway.

I'm just after something that is alternative to the copy and paste method I am doing now. But will recognise deleted files, moved files and renamed files etc.

This is fantastic! I downloaded the trial version of SyncBackSE and it does exactly what I need. I am able to mirror my working drive to the back ups. Creating a profile makes it really simple. Thank you so much for your suggestion, I'll be purchasing this!
