Well it's interesting because it's a better graphics card but a weaker CPU. It's certainly a viable alternative, for the two games you've mentioned either build would be good - both would pretty much max out BF4, and the FX/r9 290 build would be able to push for even higher graphics settings in crysis 3.

For games that take advantage of more cores the FX is a great chip. For those that don't it can struggle more than an i5, but we are usually talking about games that aren't coded so well and the list of games is quite small and specific (arma3, DayZ, planetside 2 and other MMO games, plus a couple of others).

One thing I will say about that FX build is that there's no aftermarket cooler. If you choose the FX you should consider buying a CPU cooler and overclocking the 6300 to get the most out of it, otherwise you may find it bottlenecking the r9 290 a little. You should be able to get a moderate overclock even on that cheap motherboard.

Personally I would choose the i5 but both are good and it's hard to see you being disappointed with either. Feel free to ask if you have more questions :)

Ooh, nice find :D

The gtx 770 is a very strong card, almost as good as the R9 290 and either would be more than enough for 1080p gaming. I'm really liking that third one, it's a good price too

The i5/ 770 would use less power day-to-day than the FX/r9 290 as the i5 is more efficient than the FX and the 770 is more efficient than the 290, so it would save you a bit on electricity over the years as well :)
