I have a Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H motherboard and a Pentium G3258. The G3258 supports 1333ghz RAM and the mobo supports 1600ghz RAM. I plan on a future cpu upgrade to an i5. What would be the best RAM for me? 1333ghz with 7cas? Will 1600ghz at 7cas run as well or better? Will cas lower than 9 make much difference?

Additionally, I will need a cpu cooler, and everyone recommends Cooler Master Evo 212, I think that's the one. Will I need low profile RAM to insure that everything fits? Is GSkill ECO series good RAM? They are low profile and have fast cas timings, but run on low voltage. Will that run on this mobo?

I don't plan on oc'ing the RAM. The computer will be used for making a Linux machine to learn Linux, daily usage web browsing, watching movies/videos, email, listening to music. And I want to learn Openshot and Blender to do some hobbyist video editing.

Any advice and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Solution
Definitely get the ECO series for good clearance and the CAS latency. I also suggest the EVO 212. Its just an overall great bang for your buck CPU cooler! If you will be using Linux and have some money left over.. Something I found fun was buying a Raspberry Pi to do some fiddling around with different OS. You can fine one here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813142003&cm_re=raspberry_pi-_-13-142-003-_-Product

*EDIT* just to be sure youre getting the RAM I am talking about: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f310666cl7d8gbeco

If you're planning on upgrading to an i5 eventually, you may as well buy RAM with that spec in mind. Get at least 1600 GHz RAM.

Lower CAS is always better but CAS7 will prolly be pretty expensive. I would try to buy CAS8 unless that is also too expensive, then settle for CAS9.

Thanks for the advice. Good to hear that the ECO Series is good RAM. My worry is that I have read that some mobo's don't play nice with the low voltage. Maybe some ECO 1600 7cas would do the trick. :)

Thanks again for your input.
