I have a Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H motherboard and a Pentium G3258. The G3258 supports 1333ghz RAM and the mobo supports 1600ghz RAM. I plan on a future cpu upgrade to an i5. What would be the best RAM for me? 1333ghz with 7cas? Will 1600ghz at 7cas run as well or better? Will cas lower than 9 make much difference?

Additionally, I will need a cpu cooler, and everyone recommends Cooler Master Evo 212, I think that's the one. Will I need low profile RAM to insure that everything fits? Is GSkill ECO series good RAM? They are low profile and have fast cas timings, but run on low voltage. Will that run on this mobo?

I don't plan on oc'ing the RAM. The computer will be used for making a Linux machine to learn Linux, daily usage web browsing, watching movies/videos, email, listening to music. And I want to learn Openshot and Blender to do some hobbyist video editing.

Any advice and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I originally posted this in the Motherboards section, as I wasn't sure which section is more appropriate. I can remove one if needed.

I'd look for 2x4 1600/8 or 9, 1.5, Gskill Ripjaws X or Snipers would be good choices, the 212 EVO is a great choice and DRAM height doesn't matter the fan(s if you add a second one) are height adjustable

The Hyper 212 is not that bulky horizontally so if you position you RAM in the slots farthest from the cpu you could get a good G.Skill Ripjaws RAM at either of thos two frequencies. (It's Mhz btw not Ghz 1333Ghz would be HEAVEN). If budget Allows 8 gb is good for editing HD videos. but you could buy a single 4gb stick but 8gb is futureproof for your future i5. A ~300Mhz difference in RAM is not that noticeable even in the most intensive video edits.

Thanks for the Hyper 212 info. This board has 4 slots and can have a total of 32gb RAM. If I use 2 slots to accommodate the cooler, is there any difference between 2x4gb=8gb dual channel vs. 1x8gb=8gb single channel, and then later adding another 1x8gb stick for a total of 16gb dual channel? So, is there much difference between 8gb dual channel and 8gb single until I add more?
