Good graphic card for desktop work

Hey Guys,

One of my friends is starting school in "building drawing" witch is basically using auto-cad sketchup and all that jazz.

He asked me to build his computer since i had done mine a while ago and it rocked hehe.

here are some of the specs I have in mind:

I added the graphic card very randomly to fit the budget. I would like to have some advice on a better one and hopefully cheaper.

What would be a good graphic card for autocad under 100$ (CAD $)

thats a good budget for a non gaming grphics card
professional cards would be a lot costly so
a GT 640 or R7 250 DDR3 version would do the job

I would pick the Intel Pentium G3258 instead of the i3 you chose. You already have a z97 motherboard so that is good. The i3 can't overclock and the Pentium G3258 can so the G3258 would prob outperform the i3 if overclocked. Instead of the 6670 I would get a GTX 750 or GTX 750ti, whichever fits your budget more.

So basically you will spend a little less on processor and a little more on graphics card. That should balance your system better.

You could also spend a lot less on your Power supply. Really no need for a $150 power supply in your build.

oh! 150$ on the power supply? I thought I had a 60$ one. Let me change that.

As for the OC. I won't be doing it. I don't think I will start doing that for this built. I don't want any trouble since he will call me the second something goes wrong lol.

In that case i would get rid of the z97 motherboard and try to get a cheaper H81. try to use the money saved from that to get gtx 750 or GTX 750ti? Either way i dont see a 6670 being much better than integrated graphics. The GTX 750 would be much better.

Ya I was thinking about just using the integrated graphic. But would it be good for the kind of work with autocad?

actually you make a good point. I dont need that motherboard. I will look at the h81 models. Probably much better.

Looking at the required specs an i3 with integrated graphics would be way over minimum specs as it is. Not sure if graphics card or more cores would help render faster or not as I don't use autocad myself.

thanks for the advice. I think I will cheap out on the motherboard and buy a better graphic card.

My gf is actually an architect, but she has no idea about technical stuff.
