New Pc Build for College

I’m in a position where I have allocated about 1000 for the graphics portion for the rig. Because of this I have two main options:

The first is getting a 780ti (asus direct cu) along with the asus pb278q 1440p ips monitor.

The second is getting an average tn panel but with two 700’s is sli.

For the ips panel the refresh rate is only 60hz so im not really sure how good it is for gaming also factoring in ghosting and such.

The question I need answered is if the quality of the display on the 1440p ips outweighs all the perks that the tn panel brings to the table.

Also before you guys start recommending Korean monitors, I don’t want them. Hate on me as much as you like but I just don’t want a Korean monitor. That said, I was considering the tempest 270oc… but I just have much more peace of mind getting the asus and knowing that it is a high quality product. Is there even a point of getting a 120hz display? (I don’t think ill be hitting the high frame rates to even notice a difference.

In my opinion, I would go with the 1440p display. I know you are building this for gaming but since you are going to college you will undoubtedly be using it for school work and the extra screen real estate of the 1440p is really really nice. Throw in the beautiful colors that come with an IPS display and it makes for a very enjoyable experience.

The benefits of a regular TN display is that you get quicker refresh rates and a lower grey to grey time, this is beneficial for fast paced first person shooters, but unless your a competitive player I believe the 1440p IPS display is a better choice. (I may be a bit bias though because I use one of the Korean panels lol)

Playing at over 60Hz is really nice but not necessary, I have my display overclocked to 96Hz and regularly go over 60Hz when playing games with a 7970, so a 780ti would easily take advantage of an above 60Hz monitor.
