My current cooler (Arctic Freezer Pro 7) fan has died. It has been playing up for a while, i ignored it and it finally died. Since it was really cheap in the first place (£15), I don't really justify buying a new fan for it from arctic (£13 ish including delivery. I posted previously about which cooler to get, however I now have a slightly larger budget (~£50) I have narrowed it down to these 3 coolers:

Noctura NH-U9B

Phanteks U-Type Cooler

Hyper 212 Evo

Which is the best one for my budget?. Also I have never removed thermal paste from a CPU before so was going to get this to remove it. Would this suffice?

The hyper 212 evo is by far the most recommended cooler on this forum. Can't go wrong with that one, unless you are wanting really aggressive overclocks.

Yes, that cleaner you linked would work fine. Rubbing alcohol would do the trick. Hell, I've done it with non-perfumed nail polish remover!

Thanks for your quick reply. I have seen the Hyper 212 Evo mentioned a lot on this forum, my i5 is only over clocked to 3.8 ghz. So if it isn't worth it to spend more on cooler I think I will just get the Hyper 212 Evo, thanks

Is the phantek better than the Hyper 212 Evo for the money?

I'd say it depends on what you want to do. That phantek is more than £10 extra. It will cool a little better, but if you just want mild overclocks, or just wanting a simple quiet system, the hyper 212 is more than adequate.

In my opinion yes.

Just a quick tip, let your computer run for a little but to warm up the thermal paste so you don't damage anything taking off the old cooler.

Just really want something that will last and cool a partially over clocked i5 The freezer pro 7 was cooling it with an idle of 35° so which one, hyper 212 or phantek will be the same as or beat the freezer pro 7?

I would buy the Phantek if I was choosing.

Better cooler and way easier to install than the 212.

Hmm OK thanks for your replies. How long would you roughly leave your computer running before removing the old cooler?

If you don't mind the extra, the phantek is the better cooler for sure. The hyper 212 is the go-to cpu cooler for a reason. It does an amazing job for the small price it costs.

I've never done that to replace a heatsink.

Oh will just have to see how easy or hard it is to remove the old cooler. I don't mind spending a little more as long as its worth, so would you say go for the Phantek since it offers better cooling?

Yep, it is the better cooler for sure.

OK thanks, will go for the Phantek then since it is only roughly £12 more than the Hyper 212 evo

Good choice.

You don't have to run the computer for long at all, maybe 5-10 minutes. It's not necessary but there are some times when the thermal paste is stuck on really tough and won't let the cooler separate from the CPU. You may find that it's an unnecessary step.
