I am running a MSI 970A-G46 Socket AM3+ AMD Motherboard and was looking for the fastest processor I can run. I was looking at the AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7GHz Socket AM3+ 220W Desktop Processor but a friend of mine is telling me my motherboard doesn't support it. What would be the fastest processor available?

Solution
Go with the FX 8320 and overclock it to FX 8350 speeds. Not worth the extra cost vs an FX 8350. If you already are running an FX 8xxx series chip, start saving up for a better system.

Only 990FX MoBos support FX 9, which is a total crap of a CPU! Boiling temps, horrible price, highly unstable even on slight OCing, a FX 8350 will be the best you should go with, avoid FX 9 and FX x1xx series CPUs. FX 9 is just pre OCed FX 8 with lots of heat and price added to it, both have more or less the same max OC frequency too.
