How can I play Portal 2 Offline Co-op with two keyboards and mice?

I am trying to play Portal 2 Offline with a friend with 2 keyboards and mice. The connection just is not there. I am not looking to spend an arm and a leg to get a 360 controller. Is there any way this could work?
