What is more important when programming ? GPU or CPU

I am currently learning some programming stuff(java), i will probably work in unity and cry engine. And i will do some gaming aside (battlefield mostly).

Should i go with GTX 780 and FX-8350(maybe i5 4670k,if i go with some 40$ case) or R9 280X and i7 4770k.

Depends on what you're making, but if you're making games, don't make the same mistake as notch did with minecraft, the whole damn thing is ran off mostly the CPU.

Just remember, push the load on the GPU, especially physics calculations, these are murder for the CPU. Enjoy geeking out like the best of us!

I am a developer myself, and if you are coding in Java then CPU should be your priority. If you are making games and these games are very graphically intense, then you might think of having a powerful GPU. Otherwise for compiling and Coding, a decent CPU is must. Therefore in my opinion opt for a better CPU.
