black screen, audio works, no bsod

Screen goes black, audio still runs. Connection seems as good as it gets, computer unresponsive completely. Usually sound loops. Only hard reboot fixes it. No bsod or autorestart

Seems to happen when the gpu runs some load for a length of time.

System:
i5 3570k (stock)
Radeon 7870 ghz edition
8gb 1600 ram
430W psu

You know what, ive recently been getting the same thing. i dont think its the psu (however i would maybe upgrade it for unrelated reasons). i have 750w 80 bronze and i don't pull more than 550w probably, so maybe its something else. ive been quickly overclocking my gpu as this started, but the black screen would happen at weird times, just on the internet or something lol. Have you been running any overclocks? maybe they're not stable?
