I've looked around and come to the conclusion that I must clearly have bought an inferior PSU in spite of the good reviews I saw when buying it, the PSU being a "Corsair CS550M".
Unfortunately I seem to be getting the dreaded grinding noises. Doubly unfortunate is the fact that I've had this fault, received a replacement, and within just one week have experienced the fault with the brand new PSU.
Weirdly enough when I take the power supply out of the case whilst still running and grinding away, the instant I turn it upside down it becomes quiet as a whisper. Why is this happening and is there maybe ANYTHING I can do short of a further replacement or buying a better PSU? I really don't have the time to take my computer out of service for a while and last time it took Corsair a month to send me my replacement.
(PS I would also rather not have to leave my PSU dangling out of the back of the case just to shut it up)
