i want it for games like:
BF4
Shadow of Mordor
Dying light
COD: Ghosts
MW3
Borderlands 2
Far Cry 3
Skyrim

my resolution is 1920 x 1080

as of now, im seeing about 1gb -- 2.1gb of video ram being used in my games, so do you think 2 gb will ok or should i go for 3? thanks guys

Solution
i had the 7950(r9-280) before i got my 780, but it played ultra modded skyrim even at 1440p resolution. it will be fine for 1080p gaming and will near max out every game out there, just need to cut down the AA levels if you want to keep 60fps but not a big deal.

if your modding skyrim you will likely want at least 3gb.

you should wait for nvidia to give us the full details of the new maxwell cards that are going to be available soon.

otherwise on the budget end i would say an r9-280 3gb for right about $200 is the best bang for buck. or you can find a decent model r9-290 for right around $400(+/- $25). though the latter is really meant for 1440p or 120hz@1080p.

how much are you willing to spend?

I can sugest you the r9 280 or r9 280x
then there are some options like the gtx 770 which is pricier and only a bit better then the r9280x.
the gtx 760 is about the same price as the r9 280 but the r9 280 is better.
to be more future proof I'd go for 3 gigs of VRAM, this will also be more beneficial if you decide to SLI/crossfire at some point
