Best graphics card (or cards) for a non-gaming dual 4k display set up?

1. What is the best graphics card (or cards) for a non-gaming dual 4k display set up (two ASUS PQ321Qs)? This will be on an ASUS X-99 motherboard in a Corsair Obsidian 900D case so I do not think space will be an issue.

2. Would it be better to get one card with dual display ports or two cards with single display ports?

3. Also, I know there are many brands - are there better/worse ones or is it just preference?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your answer. I was hoping to not go quite that high on the price unless absolutely necessary. I see that the R9 295x2 has four mini display ports where I would only need a single card with two or dual cards with one each, right? Are there any other options that are cheaper (maybe $500-800)?

Hello. Is this simply for editing or just video playback and browsing? I would go for a radeon r9 290x vapor x because it can power dual 4k displays no problem for just simple tasks, and even gaming on a single 4k panel. If you want, you could also get dual r9 280x's, but not worth it unless you are gaming. The difference is, that the vapor x and asus are very quiet compared to others.

For 2 x 4k monitors, you need to go top end. Else change to 2 x 1440p monitors.

Yep, 1440p 27" is what I would recommend (with the money you save get 3x 1440p ips) and a 290x 4gb.

Thanks for the reply and apologies for my ignorance, but don't the two suggested graphics cards (Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X R9 290X and ASUS R9 290X) only have one display port? I didn't think HDMI or DVD-I support 4k, or could I connect the second 4k monitor to one of these other ports?

Also, are there any differences between these two R9 290X models? You mentioned they are both quiet which is great, but is there anything to recommend one over the other? The Sapphire appears to be about $65 more expensive.

Thanks again so much for you help. One final question (I think it should be the last anyway). As the price difference between a single ASUS R9 290X (~$580) and dual ASUS R9 280x (~2x$310) is not that great, would it be better to go with dual cards connecting each monitor to a display port directly or the single card with one monitor connected to the display port and another using the DVI to display port adapter? Is the main difference that the single card would be quieter?

What power supply are you planning on getting? The dual cards in theory and in practice take more power, and therefore output more heat and are louder. If you went for asus dcu2's, though it would be quite quiet, and if you were to game, it would be very powerful. Either will do, but the 290x will be quieter and if you need the performance you could get another. Your choice, but as a gamer I would get the 280x's (for immediate performance). What are the rest of the specs on the machine?

2 x 280x's will outperform a 290x. You could also try 290 (no x) $400
