At this moment, my build consisted of a z97 mobo with a i5 4690k (not yet bought ). I was going the Devils Canyon way because of better cooling, but I got a h100i so I'm not as worried about Temps on the 4670k which is slightly cheaper (or is Temps still a little issue) . Then, I saw Newegg has a sale on the i7 4770k. Again, it suffers from the same temperature issue and costs more. I plan on video editing, recording, and playing some games. Should I get the i7 4770k or will the i5 4690k still be OK? I have a high cuda-count card so I can use GPu boost in Adobe applications, but I can't get a definite percentage or opinion on how much hyperthreading and the additional cores/threads helps. I plan on doing a OC, just not sure how much because I'm not experienced. Can anyone shine some light?

My opinion is to spend some extra bucks and get the 4770k/4790k. For gaming you won't really notice any difference but for video editing the i7 shall be faster. It is also more future-proof

Get a Xeon 1231v3:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($247.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $247.98

It is essentially an i7-4770, without the Intel HD graphics and just slightly underclocked. It is a steal for the price.

Having an i7/Xeon will definitely help with the editing and recording, and gaming will do very well.

Hope that helps :)

Oops. Meant to say I WILL have a gpu with a high cuda count. Thanks for the suggestion though!

H100i is a top cooler. I'd say 4.4GHz is a reasonable overclocking expectation.
