Hello. I just purchased an Asus X99 Deluxe. I'm putting in a Noctua NH-D14 CPU heatsink which is huge. Long story short, it will be a month before I actually build the thing (living situation is in flux).

I'm pretty confident the NH-D14 will fit in the case and that it will clear the RAM, but I have serious doubts about whether the video card is far enough away. I'll only have one video card. Does anybody know for sure whether I can put it in the 2nd or 3rd PCIe slot? In that case, I would of course have tons of room for the heatsink.

I know for a fact that the MB has configurations where the 2nd or 3rd slot runs with 16 lanes, so I know I'll have full bandwidth, but that doesn't necessarily mean I can use those slots as primary. Anybody know for sure? Thanks!

I have a gigabyte X99 Gaming G1 board. i was just fooling around and tried this out. on my board it worked fine in the second slot. i'm sure it will work just as well on the Asus board.

one thing to keep in mind though is that if you get the lower spec 5820k the second PCI E x16 slot might only get 8 lanes instead of 16. i have the 5930k so it wasn't much of a problem.

Ah, that's comforting. Thanks!

Hopefully somebody will come along who has done the same with Asus. Also, I have the 5930K, so I'll be fine with bandwidth (not that it would probably saturate it anyway, we'll see when they announce the GTX980).
