I have an aging server in my office that I would like to upgrade. It works fine for what we use it for, so, I don't really want a new computer. When I purchased it in 2009, it had 3 gigs of RAM, expandable to 25 gigs. I am likely going to upgrade the RAM to 12G. The processor is an Intel Xeon 3503 @ 2.4 GHz. I would like to know what my upgrade options are, for ONLY changing the CPU to something more powerful. We aren't using it for graphics intensive stuff, it is simply a file server and workstation combo (receptionist entering appointments and so forth into it while 5 other computers read the data, and these computers are never all being used at the same time - maybe 2 at most are actively accessing the server). Can someone make processor suggestions that are compatible with this motherboard?
Thanks!

Dude,

You should really consider Xeon X5650 2.66 GHZ Six core CPUs, overclockable to 3.1 GHZ.
This is the CPU that is cheapest in all Xeon 56XX series and available around $ 100 or so for new.
There are other and rather cooler options as well...get Xeon X5690 3.46 GHZ six core or Xeon X5687 3.6 GHZ quad core processors, they are real fast, but too costly as well- around $1000.

Hope this helps.
