I'm planning on building a pc soon and was wondering how much of a graphical improvement the R9 280x is over the R9 280. The Sapphire R9 280x 3GB is about $265 and the Asus R9 280 3GB is about $205. So I want to know how much of a difference there will be between the cards. So as an example what would be the framerate difference of the 2 cards on say, Battlefield 4 on Ultra settings? I am on a budget and want to know if the $60 price difference is really worth it. Thanks!
Processor: i5 4590 (Quad Core 3.3 GHz)
RAM: 8 GB

Not much difference. We here would recommend R9 280X but R9 280 is almost the same performance. So why do we recommend it? It's higher performance. But not enough to justify $60.

If you're playing at 1080p, it makes more sense to compare the levels of visual detail you can turn on because both the 280 and 280X should manage near 60 FPS in most titles. The R9 280X should be much more consistently capable of max settings. In all, it should average out to be 15-20% faster than the 280.

If you're considering the 280, I'd urge you toward the new 285 instead.
