Hi guys,

I have built 1 gaming PC in the past and am gearing up for my second build. I am struggling however because I would like to give a shot at a mATX gaming rig.

I chose mATX because occasionally I will LAN at my friends houses and would like something more easily transportable but don't want to sacrifice performance.

My fist question is about the case, I need something with great airflow and have been looking at:

-Bitfenix Prodigy M
-Corsair Air 240
-Corsair 350d
-Fractal Node 804

.I'm also planning to get these PC components to start my build.

-i5 4670k
-Asus Gryphon z97 or Maximus VII gene
-palit 780ti sli
-corsair CM 1000w
-8gb corsair vengence RAM
-128gb SSD
-2TB Hard Drive
-corsair H100i

Is this build gonna work or do I need a larger case?

I mainly play BF4, SC2, DOTA, and some FPS'

Thank you.

Probably will work, but I am not sure whether 2 dual-PCI slot cards can fit in mATX. And you don't need 2x 780 Ti; a R9 290X can max out most games.

I already have a 780ti, I was just thinking of expanding in the future, thanks for the suggestions thought. btw, how bout the MoBo; is the maximus or gryphon worth? I mean i'm not really into extreme OC and I don't want to spend more if I could buy a Good MoBO other than the ones that I mentioned. any suggestions?

The motherboard is okay. I don't know a good Z97 mATX motherboard to recommend.

And also, I figure you may like the new Corsair 380.

There's no reason you can't do compact SLI on a mATX board, but the key thing to pay attention to is probably matching your motherboard to the case, as some cases have 5 expansion slots and being able to take advantage of a slot-gap between cards could make a significant difference - especially if you are using non-reference coolers.
The only mATX board I know of which supports this is the Gigabyte G1 Sniper M5.

I'd rule out the Prodigy as it's kinda rubbish and won't fit your components. The rest should work, so it's really just deciding what kind of form factor you have in mind. Though it won't fit the H100i, the Silverstone SG10 is also worth a look as it's very small for mATX and has excellent cooling on the graphics cards.

As for your build, it's fine (if potentially overkill as has been mentioned). I'm assuming you mean an RM Corsair PSU? (don't think they make a CM). This is probably not your best option as it's more capacity than you need and it's not the greatest quality unit on the market, plus it's not cheap enough to make it worth the money.

I used SLI on an Matx board for a while without issues. The most important thing is to make sure you get reference cards (blower style).

That is an Mitx not Matx case. Plus it is HUGE for an Mitx case.

Get the Corsair 350d. By far one of the best mATX cases.

Do you have any PSU to recommend? and how many watts do I really need? I have a AX750 as a spare PSU, I don't know if that is enough to power up the whole system.

Also make sure you know that two 780TI's perform the same as a single 780 at 1080p. If you are gaming at 1080p, you are wasting ALOT of money.

All the games you listed will easily max on a single 780 at 1080p.

Just use one card, forget SLI. You have no use for it unless you are playing at 4k or across 3 monitors.

At 1080p there is ZERO difference between one and two 780TI's.

I was planning to get a 1440p monitor, but what the hell. what's done is done. BTW how bout the MoBO better if I upgrade to a z97 or stick with a z87?

I would recommend the Air 240D, since 380T is ITX.

Just stick with one 780ti. Even at 1440p it will max most everything.

I would get a z97 board for sure.
