I am currently running an E8400 at 3.15Ghz with GTX460 768Mb as a GPU. Trying to run games in 1080p - obviously sacrificing image quality. Would it be a worthy upgrade to replace the GPU with R7 260x 2Gb? I am guessing 2Gb video memory will be much better for 1080p, but am a bit worried about my CPU being a bottleneck in this case. Thank you.

The 260x is only a bit better. Not significantly better. 1gb/2gb won't make much difference.

If you want a 'significantly' better card, you'll need to get at least a 270x and maybe a new power supply to be able to reliably run it.

Yes, I can see the R7 is slightly better. But my question is, do you think there will be a significant improvement in performance overall as I understand that it is not ideal to have less than 1Gb of video memory for Full-HD gaming, and the R7 has 2Gb, which will in theory boost the performance?

i had also the same configuration same like u.
its better u should change processor with GPU. because i have also tested Wolfenstien with i core 5 with that card, and found 2-3 fps in game.
so its better to change processor
