Hello

I am building a gaming PC and plan to overclock at some point in the not too distant future.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2273906/build-...

I recieved my asus Z97-a motherboard and it mentioned in the manual that if I want to monitor the temperature of my board and its components I have to buy a 'thermistore' cable which I then tape to the board/component to be monitored.

Is this cable neccessary? Is it not possible to monitor temps with third party software for example. Apologies for my complete ignorance :(

Many thanks and I look forward to reading the replies!

Whatever temp monitoring software you use, you can't expect it to know what the temps are without some means of physical feedback device on the motherboard which interacts with the software.
