Hey guys,
I recently built my pc and my graphics card is Radeon r9 270x: http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9270XDC2T2GD5/

The display ports available to me are:
2 X Native DVI
1 X Native HDMI
1 X Native DisplayPort

I have already used up the DVI-I port connecting to an adapter to my VGA a display. This works perfectly.
The Issue
I bought a DVI-D to VGA adapter but unfortunately, when I connected it from my graphics card to the VGA display it did not work. After some research I found that I need a converter for this to work. To get this converter would cost a lot of money.

So now I'm wondering if I could instead get an adapter from either HDMI or DISPLAYPORT to DVI. (Something like this: http://www.smartvm.com/dd-1001a.html) and then connect a DVI-I adapter to it which then connects to VGA to my display.

THEN a standard VGA connector to the VGA display

Solution

It will but the quality will not be as good if you we're to use a display port or HDMI etc. I highly recommend a new monitor and use this as a short term solution.

Edit: Also your graphics card would handle a much more intense load so a full 1080p game wouldn't jitter etc. Overall a new monitor would enhance your gaming/other experiences.

No problem :D Just as reassurance, I build pc's on the side as part of a living and currently work full time as a web dev, and work at gaming festivals mainly insomnia as networking and it support. Hopefully that gives some faith in my answer :')
