My friend has an old Windows XP laptop. While it was working just fine till recently, suddenly the language of the dialogue box and some other things like the My Computer properties have started coming in the Icelandic language instead of English. It does not happen with everything, just a few things. In Control Panel (Regional languages), I can't even understand a word, let alone try to change the language. I do not know how he managed to do this. Please help.

Can you get into the regional and language options?

-Click the control panel
-About 2/3 of the way down you will see the earth as a globe. Click this to open regional and language options.
-There are 3 tabs. On the first tab, click the dropdown box and select english.

I'm not sure if you need to use the 2nd tab, but there is only 1 button on that page, it says "details". You can click that and then select a language in that dropdown box.

There is also a dropdown box on the 3rd tab where you can select a language.

Yes, I can. In fact I have got into it because till Regional Languages everything's in English, but as soon as I open up that box it goes Icelandic again. I have tried clicking on those dropdown boxes and selecting some random thing 'cause I don't understand what to select, but it is still Icelandic only. I'll try again.

I don't know why you would click something random from the dropdown box. The dropdown box is just a list of languages, you should be able to see "english" as a language.

How long ago did this happen? Do you have a system restore saved from before the language was changed. That might change it back. If you can navigate the start menu, you get there by:

Start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore

Or you can open start menu, click run, type cmd, enter, type rstrui.exe, enter

Click restore my computer to an earlier time and then check the calender to see if it has a save before the language was changed. If so, tell it to restore and then leave it alone till it restarts.

I don't know if that will fix it, but it might if there is a restore point from before the language was changed.
