Hey Guys. I just recently upgraded my 1TB Black Caviar HD to a 1TB Samsung SSD...and i'm seeing a BIT of a difference but not the startup speed I was hoping. So im wondering if my MoBo is the item that needs replaced....because I can't see any other part that may be slowing it down.

Here is my current build...if im off or you see something else that needs to be upgraded to enjoy the fullness of the SSD let me know that as well!

Half-x case
-Intel Core i7950 @3.07GHz
-12GB RAM
-Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
- Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB ATA
- Asus P6TD Deluxe MoBo

Thanks ahead of time for the imput!

Yes your motherboard supports only SATA 3Gb/s which is the gen2 . SSDs need SATA 6Gb/s (gen3) to take full potential. With yours, the SSD is basically limited to the same speeds as the mechanical hard drive ( which already was a fast one - the cav black) so you won't see much performance improvement unless you allow the board to unleash the full the potential and bandwidth of the SATA interface. It is your board from what I can see.

To the extent that your startup is dependent on sequential drive I/O, the 3gb sata ports on your motherboard will only be marginally faster than a good hard drive.
I don't think a X58 chipset natively supports 6gb sata, and the implementations using marvell chips do not seem to perform well.

If you are prepared to buy a new motherboard, any lga1150 motherboard will have at least two 6gb sata ports. Some of windows startup is cpu bound too. It might be time to upgrade your cpu.

That makes sense. So you'd recommend the lga1150 out of all of them? Im not versed in MoBo's cept i love Asus and always have. What CPU would you recommend if i upgraded that as well?

I was thinking about these for the CPU and MoBo. I'm not real versed on ASrock...but they seem to have solid reviews on Newegg. Your thoughts?
