Hi I want to know mere basics of RAM speed and performance.
CPU or Motherboard-which will govern the RAM performance-or both will!
What is RAM Latency??

First, it does depend whether or not your motherboard supports the ram frequency. But, memory controller is normally in the CPU, so it does also play a role when it comes to RAM speed. Some processors may have trouble running ram at a higher frequency.

CAS Latency is the time it takes between a command having been sent to the memory and when it begins to reply to it. It is the time it takes between the processor asking for some data from the memory and then returning it.

Thanks Guys! What is the advisable CAS latency while opting RAM because many rams are available in the market!
What parameters to be observed while selecting best RAM ?

Performance DRAM is normally considered

1600/7 1866/8 2133/9 2400/10 2666/11

Basic DRAM

1600/8-9 1866/9 2133/10 2400/11 2666/12

I stay completely away from combos with a higher CAS at the given freqs above as you can prob do better performance wise by going down a freq (pricewise i.e. 1866/11 drop and go go 1600/9 or lower and have better performance

Yes, in general, Intel has a much stronger MC (memory controller) so they handle DRAM better in an overall and performance sense. AMD CPUs are more limited as to amount of DRAM and freq. The AMD APUs however love fast DRAM if you are using their iGPU

How can we measure the RAM performance if one works AMD platform specifically A-10 7800 & A-8 7600(Kaveri Line up)??
What is the ideal RAM for these processors?
