My current build:

CPU: i7 3770k (liquid cooled, OC to 4.2GHz)
Mobo: ASRock Z77 Pro3
GPU: Sapphire R9 290
PSU: EVGA 1300W (overkill, I know. But wanted to allow for another GPU and price was very good)
Ram: 2x 4GB (some cheap looking generic ram that came from ibuypower)

My question is, can I add another r9 290 on this setup with nothing else changed? I have heard that the Z77 pro3 is not ideal for X-firing. Will I see substantial benefit from a second GPU or should I upgrade the mobo too?

If I should upgrade the mobo what do you suggest?

Thanks in advance for any help, this website is awesome!

Yes its not ideal because "- 1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot (PCIE2: x16 mode)
- 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot (PCIE3: x4 mode)".

Second PCI-E is too weak for R9 290. Or maybe too weak. :pt1cable:

for a new mobo probably around $150.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128547&AID=10657534&PID=3938566&SID=&nm_mc=AFC-C8JunctionCA&cm_mmc=AFC-C8JunctionCA-_-na-_-na-_-na

This one says it will do 3.0x16 and 2.0x16 on the second GPU. Not sure what this means, but I hear x16 is good for crossfiring, as opposed to my current mobo which only does x4 on the second GPU?

Please excuse my ignorance, this is fairly new to me.
