This is something that I have wondered for a while. What would happen if someone put four 295X2 cards (four 7990s, for 690s, whatever) into one rig? Would it boot? Would two of them crossfire and the other two work separately? (Productivity applications can benefit from more GPUs without necessarily SLI/CFX-ing them) I have just always wanted to know what would happen.

Yeah, it should work for things like bitcoin mining, but games would only be able to use two of those cards. You'd have to run a dual PSU setup to make all of those cards work though.
it's impossible, the graphics cards aren't combatable, hardware and software wise.

However, you can do CrossfireX AND SLI in one rig, just like linustechtips did, he put twin gtx graphics cards in sli and two radeon cards in crossfireX and it worked. However, you couldn't use all of them simultaneously, you had to switch to either the crossfireX or the sli cards.

Eduello gets it. I am not talking about gaming obviously, but for computing (such as coin mining but not specifically). I didn't know if the drivers could even handle it or your system would just poop out. I have just always wondered that because in theory, one could do it.

There isn't a PSU capable of handling 4 of them. A 295X2 is 500w by itself.
