I am buying 4790k with 16gb ram. I need to decide on a board. From where I buy, my choice is limited to:
Gigabyte Gaming 5, price x
Asus Maximus 7 ranger, price x+6.8%
Gigabyte UD5H, price x+11.4%
Gigabyte Gaming 7, price x+12.5%
MSI mpower, price x+19.3%
I need good reliable board with reasonable overclocking capabilities, but nothing super. I don't need sli and gaming is secondary. Any recommendations?

I would recommend the Asus Maximus VII Ranger for the legendary Asus Quality and for its numerous features.

BTW I would stay clear of MSI boards as they are likely to break/fail. Gigabyte boards are meh, depending on the model. The Gaming 7 would also be a good choice for you, if the purchasing the Maximus VII Ranger becomes impossible.

I have no idea where this is coming from. I have really only used MSI for the last couple of years. They make fantastic quality motherboards. I have found that they seem to have the least amount of little quirks and hiccups that I always seem to find on Asus and Gigabyte boards.

@OP

I would personally go with the Mpower or the Asus board. I use the Z87 Mpower and have had no problems with it at all. I have used this board in multiple other builds as well. Too bad you cannot get a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 or 7.

Guessing some people just base this upon personal bad experiences and blow it out of proportion by saying all components of that manufacturer suck lol

@OP Just make sure you get a Z97 chipset board of whichever you do decide on. It's the latest for your CPU chipset and unlike a Z87 board, won't require a BIOS update to use. Also ofcourse just that little bit of future proofing to get the latest chipset board available for your cpu
