Something is wrong with my GPU!

This morning I woke up, having assembled my Gaming Rig the night before to find that my PC was working very well.
I also noticed that certain games on Steam were causing the system to crash, yet other games on Steam, and anything outside Steam (such as games bought on GOG.com) worked perfectly.
So I looked up a few videos on YouTube while Windows was updating and BAM, instant crash. I paid no mind to this and I restarted the computer by holding the power button until it turned off and then turning it on again.
Then I went straight to Youtube and it worked fine. Then I clicked Windows update and BAM, instant crash. So I rebooted and then the system crashed at the desktop. And now I can't get to damn thing to load Windows. I can get to the UEFI screen, although there are occasional graphical glitches. If I continue, I get the Windows logo and then nothing.
My PC works perfectly without the GPU and I've done everything:
I've checked the temperature, which was fine (I even ran it without a case panel just to be sure)
I made sure it wasn't overclocked, using MS Afterburner to disable the OC settings.
I updated the drivers.
I made sure the PCI/E power connectors were nice and snug, and I did the same for the GPU connection to the Motherboard.
My plan is to do a complete wipe of the hard drive. Is this the right course of action, because I really don't wanna have to send this thing back from whence it came.
Here are my specs:

Solution
sounds like your gpu is failing you could try to underclock the memory just a little bit (25 mhz or so) to see if that improves your stability

How would go about doing that? Would be I using the UEFI screen?

You'll need to get into windows for this so you should try to repair your installation (booting from your windows disk)
may be necesary to remove the gpu to improve your chances of restoring it.

After restoring your windows then you can try putting the gpu again

If by restore, do you mean refreshing windows? Because I tried that and it didn't complete the process. Would wiping the hard drive (including Windows 8) and then reinstalling the OS suffice?

Formatting sounds like an overkill but if you couldn't refresh then yeah you can try that -with your gpu off to maximize your chances-

Well if it doesn't work, at least I'll know that I'll have to RMA the card. I'm gonna format in a few minutes. I'll let you know how it goes.

It does sound like the R9 270x card might be broke. If you could install it in another system with the appropriate driver and run it for a half-hour to see, then you'de know that it's faulty or not. Good luck.
