Rear Audio Port Issue

Basic info to start off:

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3P
Audio chipset: Realtek ALC889

For at least a few years now I have been running a setup of using my rear audio port for my speakers which are always plugged in, and when I plug my headphones in the front audio port it will mute my speakers and play audio through my headphones. Works perfect. Today I hop on my PC and notice my speakers are not working. Not quite sure why but do have an idea. Until my Realtek HD settings I notice that the front audio port is not greyed out and is always green regardless of whether the headphones are plugged in or not. I think this is causing the speakers to be muted. I can get the speakers to turn on by adjusting the setting to not mute speakers when headphones are plugged in but this defeats the purpose of what I was originally doing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers, also reformatting my PC.

Cliffs:
Speakers always on with rear port
Plug headphones in front port, cancels out speakers
Speakers randomly stop working
Tried newer drivers, reinstall, reformatting Windows
Front audio port seems to be stuck on at all times (issue I think)

Solution
Ah, glad to hear you figured out the problem.
Make sure you get the right front panel though, there are two versions and the newer one isn't compatible with older HAF Xs. If you have an older HAF X you'll have to replace the entire top panel that holds the front panel as well. It's al detailed on CM's website though.

Thanks for the suggestion I already tried. Switching also between HD audio which I normally use and AC97 (I believe that's what it says). AC97 gave me no front jack sound at all.

Think I may have figured it out myself which is kind of where I was going before. My guess is the i/o panel on the front of my haf x is bad. The audio jack doesn't get caught up and require a good amount of pressure to push in like it used to where the mic jack still does. I think it is acting as if it is stuck when it's hooked up. Going to order a new i/o panel :)
