I'm in a bind recently my 580gtx Lighting died it was a good little trooper for the time it lasted running games pretty well at 1440p, so my next choice would have been the 780ti but Maxwell is right around the corner, and playing games off of my igpu on my 4770k is a real struggle as the resolution has to dropped significantly and all graphical settings turned off completely, to get any decent frames, so I ask the community what should I do...
My spec are: Asus Maximus Formula VI motherboard, 4770k cloked to 4.5ghz, 16gb of Corsair Dominator 2400mhz, Seasonic Platinum 1000w power supply, Samsung Evo 240gb ssd, Asus 1440p monitor, cooled by a Swiftech custom loop on the cpu and motherbaord

Personally I'd wait for Maxwell. It's like two weeks away I believe. Perhaps you can bridge the gap with a 750 Ti or something and sell it once you get a Maxwell, if dealing with onboard GPU is unbearable.

If you don't want to though, the 780 Ti is and will continue to be a very high end card. Nothing to shake a stick at, Maxwell or not.

You really have no choice but to wait for the GTX 980/970 on September 19th. Buying a GTX 780 Ti, or anything else, at a premium price just a couple weeks before the new generation is certainly going to be a regret. Either the 980/970 will be good choices for you, or those current generation cards will see a price drop.

The only option I can see is to get something that you can maybe return within the store's return policy to tide you over. The other suggestion is to get an EVGA card and take advantage of their Step Up program. That actually seems like a pretty good idea, now that I think about it.
