What is really the difference here? Both external and external enclosure have the same disk space, size, usb ports and they both can function for laptops and desktops. I was planning to purchase an external hdd for extra space but I see that the enclosure version is much cheaper with the SAME features.

I'm really just confused. Can someone please show me some light...

If I understand your question correctly, both are external drives. One comes in an enclosure that is sealed by the manufacturer and the other is a drive enclosure in which you can easily swap out drives. You can buy an empty enclosure and add your own drive.

oh, so the drive enclosure is actually just an empty case with just a SATA port for hard drives. Whoops, should've just went youtube to see what it really looks like. thanks for clearing that.
